Before the incident
Deckhand was assisting mechanic in picking up tools from engine room. This included a clutch cover which was to be taken out of the engine room via stairs across the bull works and placed into a pickup truck. Clutch cover weighed approximately 30 lbs.
What happened
While carrying clutch cover the deckhand attempted to step over the thresh hold of the water tight door which was approximately 2 ft tall. The employee tripped and smashed his right hand (backside) between the clutch cover and vessel bull works.
Injury or illness
Laceration to the backside of the employee 's right hand between knuckles and wrist. Employee received medical treatment at Gulf Regional Occupation Medical Clinic (stitches).
