Disposal Of Sharp Needle

Employee sustained a needle stick to left palm. He stated that they were trying to place an IV for a combative detox patient. Several attempts were made. While cleaning up the area employee picked up more than one IV to dispose while placing them into the sharps container he felt a prick to his left palm. One of the IV 's safety must have not been fully engaged. Minimal bleeding was noted. He squeezed the area to express blood then cleaned it with soap and water. Proceeded to the ED for post exposure evaluation.
