Before the incident
Making a splint for a patient.
What happened
The employee was assisting in fabricating a custom splint for a patient. In the process of cutting a piece of Velcro used in making the splint a pair of scissors slipped from her hand and hit the dorsal side of her left index finger resulting in a small cut to the finger. She notes that the material being used to make the splint had not yet reached the patient but that prior to that the same scissors were used to remove older splinting material that may have contained patient body fluid. No fluids were observed on the scissors but they believed it may have been contaminated. The employee refused medical evaluation in the ER but did agree to do exposure labs and wants to complete follow up labs in the six weeks three months and six months intervals.
