Assisting with an OR procedure

The patient was exposed to gemcitabine during a surgical procedure resulting in a burning sensation and skin discoloration. EE reports that normally the Chemo syringe is a secured closed system but was delivered to them without the locking device. As the surgeon instilled the chemo into the foley Cath the chemo contaminated the foley and in attempts to clean the foley with a pan of water the drug and medication splashed onto the EE 's lower anterior legs and ankles. EE reports immediately removing exposed clothing and socks. Once she arrive to Associate Health she was immediately take to shower and she showered and rinsed the areas with water and soap to remove and residue remaining.
