Employee was de-accessing a chest port on a patient who was discharging. Employee was unable to fully activate safety after removing needle from patient 's port. Employee attempted to carefully put the sharp in the sharps bin with gloves on. As the line needle was being put into sharps bin the red full latch began to close and the tip of the needle pressed against employee 's thumb causing a pin prick sized spot that began to bleed.
