Patient was having a hypoglycemic event. I donned gloves cleaned his right hand PIV site and placed a vacutainer on the IV pigtail. I then drew labs with the vacutainer from his right hand PIV.

After taking off vacutainer my right index fingers slipped into the vacutainer opening and I pricked my finger underneath my nail. I immediately alerted a nearby nurse and ran my finger under hot water.
