What happened
The incident occurred as employee was pushing down the syrgine flushing a catheter and the pressure caused fluids to spray back into his face and eyes from the insertion site where you flush the catheter.
Injury or illness
Nurse was attempting to flush resident 's catheter with acetic acid. As he pushed down on the syringe the pressure pushed back and fluids sprayed up in his face and eyes from the insertion site for flushing. He was trying to remove a blockage in resident 's catheter system. He was wearing a gown and gloves per EBP requirements but face was exposed.
