She gave the injection and placed the used syringe on the bedside. When retrieving the syringe for sharps disposal she accidentally stick herself in the left thumb. It penetrated the skin and bled some. She washed her hands and notified her supervisor (me). The sharps container was not right at the bedside. The syringe did not have a safety mechanism.
