Before the incident
Performing a mastopexy procedure
What happened
Upon closure of L breast during mastopexy employee accidentally stuck herself using a non-hollow bore suture needle. The stick penetrated her gloves and the skin of her R anterior first digit. Employee immediately stepped away from the field and the contaminated suture was properly accounted for and removed from the field. She then removed her surgical gown and did a full bilateral upper extremity scrub. Then she redressed in sterile garb and continued with the case. After completion of the case employee was swiftly evaluated by ER staff.
