What happened

[REDACTED] patient was distraught about receiving influenza vaccine parent wanted patient to receive the vaccine anyways and was firm on her choice. Parent was holding patient while [REDACTED] was giving the vaccine patients parent told [REDACTED] to give the vaccine while holding patient. Patient moving and tried to get out of parent 's arms as the needle was already in the patient 's arm patient pulled away despite parent restraining patient and the needle came out of the patients arm and stuck the [REDACTED] in the right thumb. [REDACTED] went and got a new needle to readminister the vaccine as patients ' parent was still firm on wanting patient to receive the vaccine. This [REDACTED] had another [REDACTED] come in and assist with calming patient and keeping her still for the administration of the vaccine. Vaccine was successfully administered the second time with a clean needle in the left deltoid. [REDACTED] did not realize the needle had poked her until after the second injection
