Before the incident
scrubbed into surgery
What happened
I was assisting in the OR and scrubbed in for the surgery with Dr. [REDACTED]. A sharp k-wire was used for surgical fixation of the tibia and was sticking out of the skin of the surgical leg. My left index finger brushed past the kwire and it punctured my 2 gloves through my skin. I told the scrub tech and nurse. I scrubbed out and flushed my wound with alcohol and then used a surgical scrub. The scrub tech cut the kwire that had punctured my skin and discarded it from the field. I attempted to go to Employee Health but they are not open on [REDACTED] so I called the House Supervisor. I got labs done in the ED. The patient had labs drawn in PACU.
