Before the incident

Operator was preparing the filler for a CIP process. During the preparation of the filler the doors were opened for manual cleaning operations. This particular machine does not have guard door sensors to prevent operation of machinery. While the operator was working on the filler platform between the seamer and filler she had noticed some loose debris in between the funnels of the filler. She had attempted to reach in and remove the debris but the gap between the funnels closed quickly. The funnels are normally overlapping but when the chain is going around the sprocket on each end of the filler - this gap widens to 2 or 3 inches which allowed for her hand to go in between the funnels. Thankfully the machine was in wash mode which causes the machinery to run much slower than normal operation speed.
