What happened
RN was assisting provider in placement of a peripheral arterial line After placement but prior to line being secured provider requested RN assist with obtaining a blood gas from the open angiocatheter using a capillary tube. The provider had not yet retracted the needle despite being asked by RN twice to be mindful of the needle. In the process of obtaining the blood gas RN received needle stick which punctured the glove and the skin. No blood was noted at the puncture site. .
