Before the incident
Helping a nurse get an IV on a patient.
What happened
I was holding the patients limb while the RN was attempting to get an IV. The IV was unsuccessful so she withdrew the needle from the patient but did not immediately safety the needle. She went to grab gauze to hold pressure on the patients foot as there was some blood. In going to grab the gauze she accidently poked the back of my hand with the used IV needle.
