Before the incident
Welding on the tail shelf.
What happened
The associate was attempting to retrieve a 2 X 4 from under a tail shelf. (The 2 X 4 had been placed to close a gap in the piano hinge for the tail shelf trap door.) During the attempt he touched burned his hand on a hot weld. His reaction to the hot weld caused him to drop the tail shelf on his left thumb. Gloves (PPE) are required for the task. The associate was not wearing the required PPE at the time of the incident.
