The IE finished pressure washing his assigned section of the crane from the maintenance catwalk and chose to climb over the catwalk guardrails to access the top deck of the scaffold platform 5 ft below the catwalk deck to assist a co-worker pressure washing the crane from the scaffold.

What happened

While descending from the catwalk the employee 's grip on the catwalk guard rails slipped causing him to fall backward through the ladder deck opening of the scaffold top deck to the scaffold headache deck canopy approximately 16 ft.

In the process of the fall the employee struck the left side of his abdomen and landed on his left side on the headache deck.
