Before the incident
An employee experienced a cut and contact injury to their left little finger while performing a loading function on the dock. Setting up an outbound LTL the operator cycled the dock plate but when it came down it did not sit flush within the trailer. The operator tried to lift the plate with their hands to straighten it out. As the plate lowered the operator did not get their hand out of the way in time and their gloved hand got caught under the plate allowing the plate to close on their finger. The operator was able to free their hand and reported to the UM who began first aid measures before the operator was accompanied to the hospital. This incident resulted in a fracture to the finger and required sutures. The dock plate has been reviewed by our maintenance team and found to be operating properly. Stand downs are being coordinated at the site and an ARC incident investigation is underway
