Employee was deaccessing a patient port.

Employee was deaccessing a patient 's port needle. They employee went to throw the used port needle in the sharps disposal but the port needle was covered in excessive tape placed by the patient to more easily allow the port to stay attached to the patient 's skin. The excessive tape caught on the edge of the sharps container and caused the port needle to flip onto the employee 's hand causing a needlestick to the employee 's left thumb.
