Before the incident
Just before the incident the employee was returning the food cart to the aft galley after unexpected turbulence.
What happened
During service the aircraft encountered unexpected turbulence. The employee was in B position and went back to the aft galley to secure the food cart. While attempting to stow the cart the aircraft continued to experience turbulence which caused the cart to twist unexpectedly. As the employee tried to stabilize it their left thumb became caught and was forcibly twisted resulting in immediate pain.
