Associate alleges On my first attempt at drawing blood [REDACTED] during training I was using a 22G with a vacutainer and drawing on the pt 's left antecubital (AC). I inserted the needle into the pt 's AC incorrectly but instinctively holding it as I would hold the IVs I 've previously used in EMS [REDACTED] ago because of muscle memory. I attempted to fix my hand position while filling the first SST and I saw the vein blow. I withdrew the needle from the pt 's AC while covering the location with a folded 2x2. As I went to close the cap on the needle I closed it incorrectly because of my muscle memory from the IVs I 've previously used and my finger slid off the side of the cap and the anterior aspect of the tip of my right first pointer finger (closest to thumb) grazed against the needle enough to where I felt it. I didn 't feel pain specifically and I wasn 't sure if it broke skin. Not wanting to upset the pt I waited until [REDACTED] (my proctor) completed the lab work on the pt 's
