Before the incident
After drawing patient 's blood employee was cleaning up supplies she picked up used butterfly needle to discard it employee stuck herself in the finger.
What happened
After colecting labs- butterfly needle was removed from patient safety cover was pushed up over needle and set on bedside table after placing bandaid on patient I went to clean up the materials and sharps when I grabbed the used butterfly I felt a poke to my right thumb through my glove and after inspection the safety cover on the butterfly was not fully engaged. Took glove off and saw a small hole where I was stuck washed hands. PEN nurse notified and awaiting further instructions.
