Cleaning the surface of a bag sonic sealer.

While conducting pre-checks of a bag sonic sealer before packaging operations an operator observed a buildup on the sealing surface and reached in to clean it with an emery cloth. Nearby another operator was cleaning and triggered a photo eye causing the sealer to activate. This sonic sealer closed on the operator 's fingers causing burns to three fingers of the right hand. The injured employee immediately left the worksite and self-transported to Amberwell Atchison Hospital where he was treated and released with a referral to the University of Kansas Burn Center. Update: On [REDACTED] the employee went to his appointment at the University of Kansas Burn Center and was then admitted at [REDACTED].
