What happened

Dr. [REDACTED] was suturing close the fascia during an abdominal hysterectomy. I was doing my second count while he was closing. When he was done with the suture needle and asked for a new one i turned around to pick some instruments off my mayo stand and my hand brushed across a needle that was facing sharp up and was not protected at all when placed in the needle holder. I checked my gloves but didn 't see anything at first but then as i continued to work i notice that my blue under glove started to look wet where i was poked. He didn 't communicate at all that the needle was unprotected on the mayo. My surgical assist would alert me when she put a unprotected needle on mayo stand but the doctor did not do the same.
