While the employee was positioning and connecting the transfer hose to the pump he handled a section of the hose that had weakened and begun to collapse. This soft bent area created a pinch point when flexed. As the employee guided the hose into place his right thumb slipped into the collapsed portion. When the hose shifted during the connection the weakened area tightened and pinched his thumb causing the injury.
