Before the incident
Employee had just finished performing the machine operation needed for the part and began polishing it using a piece of sandpaper.
What happened
While polishing a part with sandpaper spinning in the machine chuck the sandpaper bit and grabbed the part which pulled her right hand into the chuck spinning part.
Injury or illness
Her right thumb hand area are bruised and swollen. She is still able to move her thumb and hand with slight discomfort. Original X-Ray was negative and did not reveal any broken bones. Employee was given a brace and was told to ice and heat injury. Discomfort continued and employee was sent back to OMS for a second check. Additional X-Rays were taken and a broken bone was detected in her right hand .
