Before the incident
Lifting a 55 gal metal barrel cut off lid to transfer to a safe location for recycling.
What happened
A he was holding the lid with a pliers in his right hand he was guiding the cut lid with his left hand. It bumped into something and began to spin in his hand. He was not wearing the required cut glove.
Injury or illness
The sharp edges of the lid slid across the pad of his left thumb. This caused his pad to be sliced starting at the Knuckle bend and continuing about 3 4 of the way up his thumb. He required 6 stitches.
