Before the incident
Maintenance apprentice was finishing steel rods for new racking on a belt [REDACTED].
What happened
As TM was finishing the steel rods they allowed their hands to become too vertical in relation to the sanding suface and the steel rod was sucked into the belt sander. As this occurred the TM got their left thumb pinched between the rod and the sanding surface and suffereed and injury.
