Attempting to balance a steel rod while being lifted from steel rack in maintenance shop.
What happened
Employee was removing a 20 ' piece of 4 diameter material from the steel rack in the main shop. A single choker was used to remove the material from the rack. The employee placed his hand on the end of the material as it was being lifted to help balance it. The material shifted and caught the employee 's middle finger between the material and the steel rack.
