What happened

Employee was performing work outside the paint shop preparing and staging material to sandblast before painting. This day employee had staged a 6-inch steel column in a standing position using a tow-motor (3 'H x 18 'L 842lbs) a column consisting of four legs. After staging the column in an upright position he chose to test bump the column using the tow-motor to test its stability. Employee stated the column appeared stable; thereby leading him to believe it was safe to remove the tow-motor from beneath the column. He then proceeded sandblasting the column immediately without implementing any measures to secure the column from falling. As he was sandblasting the steel he observed the column starting to move tip over and fall but he is not sure what caused the column to fall. He believes either his air hose hooked the end of the column causing it to be pulled over or the wind blew it over.
