What happened
The employee was building the corner of a pallet in the shipping department with a staple gun by themself. The employee fired a staple into the top of the free-standing wood board for the corner or the crate and the staple splintered out of the side of the board and punctured the base of their left index finger. The puncture was not reported to the supervisor at the time of the incident but only to a co worker who is not trained in first aid gave them a band aid and they continued to work the rest of the day. They came in the following morning with swelling and pain in the same area. The wound was treated in the first aid room with antiseptic spray and a new band aid. Later in the day the employee complained of pain and asked to be seen at the clinic. The clinic did an x ray that showed no broken bones or material in the finger but with the swelling and pain the employee was prescribed an antibiotic and given a splint to stabilize the finger to heal.
