Inspecting RR Gangway for modification
What happened
At approximately [REDACTED] Our Maintenance manager [REDACTED] was inspecting the gangway at the [REDACTED] rail scale house to see if we could modify the height for car clearance. As he got to the top he opened the safety gate and walked out onto the gangway which was slightly elevated but had no rail car underneath to support the gangway. as he passed the halfway point the catch that keeps the platform from dropping was overcome by the weight and allowed the rounded handrail to slip past the catch. this caused the gangway to drop straight down and [REDACTED] fell 15 feet to the ground. as he fell his leg struck the front of the engine and caused a fracture in his left femur. [REDACTED] was a witness to the events and called [REDACTED] at [REDACTED] and [REDACTED] ambulance responded to the call. he was admitted to [REDACTED] and is awaiting surgery for the break.
