Before the incident
Displaced fracture of distal phalanges of left middle finger open fracture.
What happened
Employee was cutting bar material to length in preparation for coiling. The employee set up the chop saw to cut the bar where the overhead crane is available. The roller table where the bar is resting to be cut was not level and the tail end cut off section had a 2.75 drop gap from the catch roller. To prevent bar from rolling off the roller table after being cut the employee did not completely cut the bar cross-section but left approx. 1 8 attached to the bar to control the drop end from rolling off the table. When the employee tried to turn the bar with his hand the 1 8 section broke off and the tail of the bar crushed his middle finger against the roller rack.
