Replacement of drive belt

Two maintenance technicians were performing a change out of drive belts on the south end of the 35 vulcanizing vessel. To check the proper function of the drive belts the technicians manually cycled the cars into and then out of the vessel. One technician was manually cycling the vessel back out and the technician that was inspecting the belts reached into the belt and pulley system to check the tension. When the cars cycled back out of the vessel the right index finger of the tech that was checking the tension was pinched between the belt and the pulley causing an amputation of the distal phalanx on the right index finger.

Amputation of the distal phalanx on the right index finger.
