Placing a board that was missing from a layer

What happened

The team member was operating the planer stacker. A layer was 1 board short so they grabbed a 4x6 12 ft from the extra board deck behind the operator. They pulled the board from the deck to be placed on the chains. While doing so the board fell at the end and dropped causing them to smash their right ring finger between the board and the even ending wall for the layers. The tip of their finger had two small cuts from the impact force and was pretty swollen. Safety was called and the team member was taken to the ER for further evaluation. Their finger was X-rayed and cleaned. After the doctor looked at the injury and reviewed the X-rays it was determined that it was NOT broken and there was nothing that needed further attention. The finger was dressed and a foam finger splint was applied only to protect the fingertip from being bumped. The doctor informed them that the foam finger splint could be removed when they woke up. The team member was then discharged with no restrictions.
