Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The
employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were
free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death
or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to:
a) Throughout Structure. Employees were exposed to potential falls of
14'4" to 14'8" to ground or concrete floors below while welding
bridging between bar joists.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method of abatement is
to instruct and enforce the use of safety belts, lifelines, or the
equivalent as stipulated by ANSI A.10.13-1978, Safety Requirements for
Steel Erection.
