Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a)THE HAZARD OF STEEL JOISTS COLLAPSING AND EMPLOYEES BEING CRUSHED BY STEEL JOISTS AND/OR BUNDLES OF METAL DECKING. SEARS STORE 3400 VICKERY ROAD, NORTH SYRACUSE, NEW YORK, SOUTHEAST CORNER BAY, ON OR ABOUT 12/07/94. TWO (2) BUNDLES OF METAL DECKING WERE PLACED ON SINGLE STEEL JOIST BEFORE ALL BRIDGING WAS COMPLETELY INSTALLED. ONE FEASIBLE METHOD, AMONG OTHER METHODS, TO REDUCE THIS HAZARD IS NOT TO PLACE ANY LOAD OTHER THAN THE WEIGHT OF ONE ERECTOR ON THE JOIST UNTIL ALL BRIDGING IS COMPLETELY INSTALLED, PER THE STEEL JOIST INSTITUTE SPECIFICATION, SECTION 6, ERECTION STABILITY AND HANDLING OPEN WEB STEEL JOISTS, K-SERIES.
