Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: (a) On or about 05/16/00 for employees observed working from an elevating work platform that was not fully equipped with all guardrails and exposed to a potential fall hazard of approximately 18 feet. Among other methods, feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct this hazard would be to: 1. Ensure the elevating work platform is provided with guardrails on all sides as specified in ANSI/SIA A92.6-1990, 4.12.2. 2. Ensure employees are wearing body harnesses and lanyards if part of the work platform guardrail system needs to be removed to facilitate work.
