Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to being struck by packages being carried to the main storage loft by the Rapistan conveyor because the conveyor lacked a spill guard on the left side which is adjacent to an aisleway used by employees. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to attach a spill guard to the left side of the conveyor. STOCK ROOM: RAPISTAN CONVEYOR LACKED A SPILL GUARD ON THE LEFT SIDE EXPOSING EMPLOYEES TO BEING STRUCK BY PACKAGES FALLING FROM THE CONVEYOR.
