General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm: Inclined lift - First and second floor: Employees were exposed to serious fall and crushing hazards in that the inclined lift did not have proper gates and enclosures to prevent employees from having any part of their body within the lift shaft. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to equip the landing area of the lift, with enclosures, and gates, the gates being mechanically and electrically interlocked so that they can not be opened when the lift is not at the landing and the lift can not be operated when any of the gates are open.
