Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the possibility of being struck by unstable material that was not adequately braced or blocked: a) Olden and Company, Liberty Place II, 4th Floor Roof, 16th & Chestnut St. Philadephia, Pa. 19105 - employer exposed employees to untable glass crates which were not adequately blocked or braced to prevent falling during crate separation process. Observed 6/22/90 ABATEMENT: ONE FEASIBLE ABATEMENT METHOD IS TO INSTRUCT EMPLOYEES TO KEEP OUT FROM BETWEEN LOADS WHEN ATTACHING SLINGS, CHOCK BRACING BEFORE SEPARATING CRATES TO MAKE SURE IT WILL HOLD AND DEVELOP AND IMPLEMENT SAFE HANDLING PROCEEDURE FOR HANDLING GLASS.
