Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The
employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were
free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death
or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to:
A) Samuel R. Parry Shears #1367 - The foot operated tripping controls
(foot pedal) on the corner cutting machine shears #1367 was not
guarded to prevent accidental activation.
Among other methods some feasible and acceptable abatemet methods to
correct this hazard is:
1) Install a foot pedal guard to prevent unintentional activation,
as required by American National Standard B11.4, Section 4.3.1.1.
Observed on or about September 18, 1990.
Was previously cited for a violation of this Occupational Safety and
Health Standard or its equivalent standard which was contained in OSHA
Inspection Number 787374 citation number 1, item number 1 issued on
March 31, 1987.
