Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to burn hazards caused by steam explosions: a) B Pocket - An employee was seriously burned by steam while removing water and slag from "B Pocket". Prior to performing this task, the employee had not received training that would allow him to properly and safely do the procedure. Observed 9/1/95 NOTE: One feasible means of abatement would be to train employees in the proper way to remove water from slag pits. Training should consist of an oral explanation of the procedure and then hands on practice before doing the procedure for real.dure
