Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: (a) Health care workers, child care technicians, team leaders, child care directors, teachers, and therapists were exposed to the hazard of being infected by HBV and/or HIV through possible direct contact with blood or other body fluids. Feasible and useful abatement methods for reducing this hazard, among others, are: offer exposed employees hepatitis B vaccinations free of charge in amounts, and at times, prescribed by standard medical practice and to make available to the health care workers testing for HIV antibodies as soon as possible and retesting at 6 weeks, 12 weeks and 6 months after exposure. Oconomowoc Developmental Training Center Inc., was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard (5 (a)(1)) which was contained in OSHA inspection number 102981446, citation number 1, item number 1, issued on November 18, 1991.
