Section 5(a)(1) of %% the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to flying parts: (a) Flying parts from abrasive wheel breakage from doing off-hand grinding using a Duracraft bench grinder to sharpen tools and groom metal on the north side of the shop. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to: (1) Equip the grinder with a work rest which must be kept adjusted closely to the wheel with a maximum opening of 1/8 inch. (2) Equip the grinder with an adjustable tongue which can be adjusted to the constantly decreasing diameter of wheel and kept adjusted so that the distance between the wheel periphery and adjustable tongue shall never exceed 1/4 inch.
