Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: (a) In the sanding area, belt sanding machines equipped with a dust collector provision for accumulating aluminum casting dust, were allowed to be used for sanding other spark producing metals, creating an ignition source and an explosion and fire hazard. Among other methods, feasible and useful methods to correct this hazard is to follow the precepts of National Fire Protection Association standard 91-414, and American National Standards Institute "Dust Collecting Systems" Z9.2-1979, 3.5.3 and 3.5.4 by establishing and enforcing a prohibition on using this equipment to sand or grind spark producing metals which could ignite aluminum dust.num
