Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to:
(a) Secondary Department- The #71 belt sander, Pangborn, Bronco and Goff
machines generate
aluminum dust where spark producing equipment in the area created an
ignition source, an
explosion of aluminum dust and fire hazard.  This equipment includes, but
is not limited to the
following: the heat exchanger, belt sander #71, twin abrasive wheel
pedestal grinder, Tennant
scrubber's battery charger at the wall by the Pangborn machine, and
smoking.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this
hazard
is to
include, but not be limited to the following:
(1) Conform to The National Fire Protection Association Standard #65 and
#91-414, American
National Standard Institute "Dust Collection System" Z9.2-1979, 3.5.3 and
3.5.4, such as, but
not limited to: safeguards requirements, good housekeeping (cleaning),
elimination of ignition
sources, collector system design, explosion vents, no smoking area,
aluminum only, grounding
and bonding of equipment, etc.
Abatement documentation is required for this item in accordance with 29
CFR 1903.19
paragraph (d).
