Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the points of operation of three press brakes and one stamping press: (a)Plant; #7 Verson, Shop #341, stamping press used with unitized tooling to punch material, point of operation was not guarded and a foot pedal was used to control the stroke. (b)Plant; Cyril Bath, Shop #206, press brake used with unitized tooling to punch material, point of operation was not guarded and a foot pedal was used to control the stroke. (c)Plant; Verson Shop #343, press brake used to bend material, point of operation was not guarded and a foot pedal was used to control the stroke. (d)Plant; Promecam, press brake used to bend material, point of operation was not guarded and a foot pedal was used to control the stoke. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to: Implement an effective "Safe Distance" Safeguarding Program as described in ANSI B11.3 - 1982, Safety Requirements for Construction, Care, and Use of Power Press Brakes. Elements of the program include: (a)Exposure prevention procedures (b)Training (c)Retraining (d)Supervision (e)Periodic inspections
