Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The
employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were
free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death
or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to
the hazard of being struck and/or crushed by defective lifts:
a) On or about July 20, 1990, employee(s) were subject to
being struck and/or crushed by all lifts due to the safety
latches not being operational when lifts were fully extended.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct these hazards is to have the Service Manager have lifts serviced
and repaired as recommendd in American National Standard B 153.1-1974,
paragraph 6.1 and 6.3.
