Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The %% employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to potential injuries from defective elevators: (a)Establishment: The freight elevators were not installed and maintained in accordance with American National Standards Institute Safety Code for Elevators (ANSI A17.1-1971). See appropriate rule below: 1.The elevator wood platform was not provided with swinging or collapsible doors or gates. See rule 207.4 2.The elevator was not provided with a conspicuously posted capacity and data plate. See rule 207.3 3.The elevator was not inspected and certified on a regular basis. See rule 1001.1
