General-duty citation text
5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer %% did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) Walt Whitman Bridge - Abrasive blasting operators referenced in citation 1, item 3, instances A & B were not provided with clean change rooms and storage facilities for personel clothing. The absence of clean storage facilities and change rooms made it necessary for the employees to report for work in work clothing worn the previous day and to wear that same clothing home thus spreading lead contamination from the work area. A wipe sample taken from the steering wheel of the service truck on 7/30/92 contained 4.7 micrograms of lead. Employees stated they wore their work clothing to and from work. A feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to obtain mobile crew facilities. On or about 8/5/92.
